I see online teaching opening up a vast number of new possibilities, both in a traditional school environment and for continuing education purposes in all kinds of industries. In a high school environment, I was initially worried about student contact and interaction. But in reality, I have so much more time to really talk to students one-on-one as an online teacher. However, there are drawbacks! Getting students to really engage with the curriculum and take initiative to complete their assignments can be a challenge.
I am enjoying every minute of this balancing act, and I'm eager to learn more about how I can best help my students. I am also interested in corporate consulting, as I have been approached by friends and relatives for ways to help their businesses incorporate more technology for training purposes.
Computers and I have always had a good relationship. My fiance likes to tell people that I can "field strip" a computer, which is pretty much the case! I have built desktop computers for both him and myself, in addition to a 4.5 TB home server, as well as a media center computer in our living room. I also dabble in web design, and have started learning the python programming language in my "spare" time (ha!). I am also in the final stages of planning a wedding, which is coming right up on August 2nd. This should be an eventful summer!
